New DMV Technologies A Success
Thousands Find It Easier to Renew
The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety's new Internet and telephone renewal system is off to a fantastic start. Nearly five thousand people have taken advantage of the new technology during its first three months of operation. Another one thousand have renewed their vehicle registrations at emissions inspection stations.
"This is good business for both the public and the state," says DMV&PS Director Richard Kirkland. "Our customers get the renewal accomplished quickly and easily, and our staff has more time available to work in other areas."
DMV&PS is encouraging more motorists to give it a try. Nearly all vehicle registration renewals and more than half of drivers license renewals can be accomplished through the Internet or telephone.
Motorists receive complete instructions with the renewal notice and pay by Visa or MasterCard. The new registration slip and decal or drivers license sticker is printed and mailed within two days.
More than 85% of DMV customers who have used the Internet renewal process rate it as excellent. Here are some customer comments from an online survey:
Renewals on the Internet can be accomplished through the State of Nevada home page or the DMV&PS web site at http://www.state.nv.us/dmv_ps/. Customers must use a special access code which is printed on the renewal notices. The department recently consolidated most of its telephone services, including telephone renewals, on its toll free number, 1-877-368-7828.
