SAHARA DMV REMODELING GETS UNDERWAY

The Department of Motor Vehicles branch office at 2701 E. Sahara Ave. in Las Vegas will get six new customer service counters and an expanded information center under a remodeling project that began this past weekend.

All of the customer service counters are being replaced under an $854,000 contract awarded to DLC General Contracting of Henderson. The department is removing several enclosed supervisor’s offices to raise the number of counters from the current 29 to a total of 35. The driver’s license testing areas at the office will be expanded as well.

The work is being done at night. Plans call for the office to remain open during its normal hours of operation each day throughout the three-month project, which is slated to end November 10th. Normal hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

Services will be curtailed, however, as the Sahara branch may be operating with as many as ten fewer counters at any given time. Other services, such as knowledge testing, may be unavailable for short periods as the project progresses, and the branch will be without its Q-Matic automated customer numbering system.

The DMV is encouraging customers to use its other branch offices during the remodel and to visit its web site at www.dmvnv.com before visiting any office. Many common transactions, such as registration renewals and driver history printouts can be accomplished online. Others, such as address changes or special plate orders, can be mailed or faxed.

“The new counters will improve the efficiency of DMV workers”, said Director Ginny Lewis. “The space at each individual window will be larger and more user-friendly for both the customer and the employee.”
