IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 3, 2006
NEWS FROM: Field Services Division 06-003
The Department of Motor Vehicles office at 4021 W. Carey Ave. will close permanently at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 4, and the new office at 7170 N. Decatur Blvd. will open at 8 a.m. Monday, March 13.
During the week between the closing of the Carey office and the opening of the Decatur office, employees from Carey will be assigned to other offices in the valley to help with an anticipated increase of customers at those offices.
“Longer wait times are inevitable during this week,” DMV Director Ginny Lewis said. “We ask that motorists be patient and understand that this closure is necessary to transition to the new Decatur office.”
When the Decatur office opens March 13, the new facility will have 206 more parking spaces, ten more customer service windows and 8,000 more square feet of space than the Carey office. It will also have two self-service kiosks that can be used after business hours.
“The Decatur office is the first DMV office where you can do business with the department after hours,” Lewis said.
“It’s the newest piece in our plan to give Nevada motorists innovative ways to do business with the DMV.”
The centerpiece of DMV’s efforts to give Nevadans alternatives to visiting an office is the department’s web site at www.dmvnv.com. Current online services include:
Vehicle registration and driver’s license renewals. The record is updated immediately upon completion, meaning motorists are legal while they wait for the sticker to arrive in the mail.
The DMV is also completing another construction project this month. The remodeling of the office at 2701 E. Sahara Ave. will be complete by Monday, March 6, giving the office six additional customer service windows, a new information counter and expanded testing areas.
