$4.7 million remodel to provide new facility for motor vehicle and public safety customers
Beginning this Friday, November 6, the DMV&PS offices at 555 Wright Way will begin the first phase of a total renovation of the building. The first phase will remodel the bottom floor of the east wing of the building. When Phase One of the renovation is complete in February of 1999, the new facility will combine Drivers License and Registration services in one large office complex on the first floor. Phase Two of the project will follow in July of 1999 with the renovation of the second floor of the building. In August of 1999, customers can look forward to one stop customer service, where both Drivers License and Registration transactions can be completed at one window.
During the renovation, customers who wish to conduct business with the Drivers License Division are asked to enter at the west wing entrance and proceed to the second floor via the stairwell. Disabled access will be via the east wing entrance and the elevator. The temporary location for Drivers License will be in the lobby of the Registration Division in Room 200 on the second floor. The Motor Carrier section and DMV&PS Personnel will be temporarily moved to the new Public Safety Technology building behind the west wing. Other motor vehicle operations will remain in their existing locations.
Drivers License customers are encouraged to use the Renew by Mail service to avoid the anticipated longer lines during the months of the remodel. Nevada drivers receive their renewal notices for drivers license 60 days before their licenses expire, so the Renew by Mail program can be an easy alternative for customers who wish to simply renew their drivers license without having to stand in line at a DMV office.
If customers have access to the Internet, they can also avoid a visit to the DMV by downloading Drivers Licence or Registration forms from the DMV&PS web site at www.state.nv.us/dmv_ps/dmvforms.htm.
