Discontinued License Plates

Discontinued plates are no longer issued by the Nevada DMV. Except for the Big Horn Sheep plate, the plates shown here are still valid for vehicle registration.

The original owner of the plate must keep it continually registered to a vehicle or allow it to expire for less than 30 days. The plate may be transferred to another vehicle but not to another person.

Eight-Year License Plate Reissue Top ↑

Most discontinued plates are subject to replacement every eight years as are most Nevada license plates. The renewal notice will notify owners their plates are due to be replaced. Replacement plates are manufactured and mailed after the renewal.

Replacements of discontinued plates are made with a flat printing process. They will not have raised lettering.

Blue plates and Nevada Anniversary (150th and 125th) plates exempt from reissue. Agriculture, UNLV and UNR plates which have updated designs will be issued in the same design the owner currently holds.

See 8-Year Plate Reissue.
