DMV&PS Appoints New Chief of Capitol Police
18-year Capitol Police veteran assumes top post

Capitol Police Sergeant Kenneth Johnson was named today as Chief of the Capitol Police by the Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety, Don Denison.

"I am very pleased to name Kenneth Johnson as Chief of the Capitol Police," said Director Denison. "The insight and professionalism he offers after 31 years in law enforcement will be a tremendous asset to the Division."

Mr. Johnson began his law enforcement career in 1967 as an officer for the Pasadena Police Department. In 1980, he joined the Nevada Capitol Police. In 1987, he was promoted to senior sergeant and supervised 14 officers and 2 sergeants. Mr. Johnson has held the position of Acting Chief since February of 1998.

The Capitol Police Force is responsible for the protection of Carson City's State Capitol Building, Nevada Supreme Court and Attorney General's Office. In 1994, the Division expanded their operations to include protection of the Grant Sawyer Building in Las Vegas.
