Governor’s Y2K Summit Set for June

Nevada Business and Government Discuss Y2K Compliance, Strategies

The Nevada Division of Emergency Management will host Governor Kenny Guinn’s Y2K Summit on June 2nd and June 3rd, 1999, at the MGM Grand Hotel Conference Center in Las Vegas. The summit is designed to alert industry and government leaders to specific Year 2000 computer problems which may happen in Nevada as the New Millennium approaches.

Representatives from a broad cross-section of industry and government have been asked to speak on possible problems and service interruptions, what their contingency plans are and what they are doing now to make sure their organization is Y2K compliant. See the attached agenda for details.

The conference will also feature panel discussions focusing on specific areas: Media and Public Information, Emergency Services, Health and Human Services, Business/Industry and Infrastructure.

Although personal invitations have been extended to Y2K experts in most industries, the Division of Emergency Management is still accepting registrations for conference participants.

For further information, call (775) 687-4240.

The Governor’s Y2K Summit will be the first of three Division of Emergency Management workshops on this issue to be held this year. The Division will also be holding a tabletop exercise in early December and will be activating the State Emergency Operations Center on December 31st.

The Division is also inviting news media members to participate in the media panel. We would like to focus on the editorial aspects of Y2K: what are your plans for coverage, what are potential problem areas as you see them and what will be the general tone of your coverage of Y2K. Please call Kevin Malone at the above numbers if you would like to participate.
