Nevada Division of Investigation Requests Public's Assistance in John Doe Case

Anonymous caller reports skeletal remains found near Wellington, Nevada

The Nevada Division of Investigation is asking for help from the public in identifying the skeletal remains of a adult male found in Sand Canyon outside of Wellington, Nevada. On March 12, 1992, an anonymous phone call was received by the Nevada Highway Patrol in which the caller stated that he had discovered the remains off of Sand Canyon Road approximately a mile east of Highway 338. The skeletal remains have been identified as male, approximately 35 to 50 years of age, reddish hair with a height of approximately 6'00" to 6'02".

In October 1991, an anonymous caller contacted the Mono County Sheriff's Department stating that there was an abandoned vehicle on Highway 338. This vehicle, a 1979 Pontiac Grand Prix, has not been claimed and was found within 2 miles of the discovery of the skeletal remains.

The Nevada Division of Investigation is asking anyone with information to contact Investigator Martin Roberto at 775-687-3779. Authorities also would like to talk with the anonymous callers who reported the location of the vehicle and skeletal remains.

The Nevada Division of Investigation, a Division of the Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety, assists local law enforcement jurisdictions in criminal investigations.
