State Emergency Operation Center to Open New Year's Eve
Joint Information Center Available for Media Representatives


The State of Nevada Division of Emergency Management will open the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) at 7:00 am, Friday, December 31 at the Nevada National Guard building at 2525 South Carson Street in Carson City. The SEOC function is to monitor millennium activities and to offer state resources to local jurisdictions who may require assistance. The Joint Information Center (JIC) will be open to members of the media from 8:00 pm, December 31 to 3:00 am January 1 in the class room on the first floor of the Nevada National Guard building.

The following information sources will be available to the media at the JIC:

The JIC phone number is 775-884-8478. Two JIC faxes will be available: 775-884-8470 and 775-884-8476. Media liaisons Lt. Col. Cindy Kirkland and Public Information Officer Kimberly Evans will be available to escort members of the media to the EOC or to arrange interviews.

Media updates and/or news releases will be disseminated to Nevada news organizations beginning at 8:15pm on Friday, January 31 via a broadcast fax system. News releases will also be posted simultaneously on the EOC web site at

Media representatives who wish to visit the JIC will be greeted by members of the Nevada National Guard. Media will be asked to present their press credentials to the Nevada National Guard for a press badge, which will allow access to the JIC.

Governor Kenny Guinn's Press Secretary, Jack Finn, and DMV-PS Public Information Officer Kevin Malone will act as media liaisons in the south half of the state.  Both will be available at the Clark County Emergency Operations Center at the Clark County Government Center.
